In an interview a prominent Hollywood restaurateur told this Writer that even the most popular restaurants generally have a life span of a single decade. And in many instances this has proven to be true.

However there are always exceptions and one that stands out is the 35 year success story of Mr. Stox Restaurant in Anaheim and the brother team, Ron and Chick Marshall, who have continued to make it one of the best restaurants in Southern California year after year.

In addition to a great service staff, the Chef, Scott Raczek, with the restaurant 17 years, and the daily attentiveness of the Marshall Family, Mr. Stox offers its clientele an unparalleled number of special events, some at the restaurant and others, field excursions.

There is the quarterly newsletter, "Mr. Stox Epicurean" which lists winemaker dinners, Hollywood Bowl excursions, special event trips to places like the Huntington Library or Getty Center. Also special restaurant events like a Easter Sunday champagne buffet brunch and Easter egg hunt or cooking classes, limited to 24 people and concluding with a gourmet dinner and outstanding vintages.

Mr. Stox is a big restauant with a full service cocktail lounge and serveral dining rooms, each with its own decor. There is seating for some 350 people and an in house bakery which has earned fame in its own right. The cuisine is contemporary.

Our recent dining experience demonstrated once again why Mr. Stox consistently earns a Golden Scepter Award, the highest award possible, from the Southern California Restaurant Writers.

Following this was filet mignon on Roquefort potato gratin, asparagus and shallot thyme reduction. Our dessert, a flourless chocolate cognac gateau with chocolate cream.

This restaurant excels in every way and has one of the best wine cellars in the country with over 20,000 bottles. Ron Marshall personally selected our wines which included a 2000 Dry Creek Fume Blanc, 2000 Silverado Chardonnay, an Australian 2001 Paringa Shiraz and finally a French dessert wine, 2001 Duban Muscat Beaumes De Venise.
