"Silvr Lake--The Stefanos--Brothers Three make Michelangelo a nice dining experience"

Serendipity, that’s what it was~ My dinner friend and I certainly didn't know just what a most pleasant dining experience we were about to experience.

It is called Michelangelo Pizzeria Ristorante and located in trendy Silver Lake. A small but nicely put together restaurant with an inviting outdoor dining area that greets. Inside a rustic room, casual but with comfortable tables and chairs. Dominating the dining room is a free standing bar displaying the wines offered by the establishment. Above that, on the wall are a group of photos side by side. These are the childhood pictures of the owners of Michelangelo and they bring the whole enterprise together. A close family that originally emigrated to Venezuela from Italy. Big brother then emigrates to England and learns the restaurant business from the bottom up including the language.

Then decides he and his brothers should get together in Southern California and start their own restaurant. That was eight years ago and the three brothers, Antonio, Guiseppe and John have never looked back making Michelangelo a true success story.

No pretense here. Good Italian specialties on this menu. Our dining experience included a homemade potato gnocchi with pesto, Calamari Fritti, Minestrone della Mamma, a hearty vegetable soup and Insalata di Verdure alla Griglia--a real winner which is grilled zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms and radiccio.

My partner tried one of the eight pizzas on the menu--Mupesa which included mushrooms, pepperoni, Italian sausage and mozzarella. All the pizzas come in either 12 or 18 inch size. We enjoyed every bite. Nothing went back to the kitchen as we each took some goodies home for the morrows enjoyment.

Besides the Gnocchi al Piachere there are nine menu pastas and .always some nightly specialties. Antipasti, salads, sandwiches, four appealing chicken entrees plus yummy desserts, Neapolitan ice cream, coffees, soft drinks and hot chocolate. It’s a versatile selection.

There is also a small but nicely selected wine list. Prices are moderate and you’ll enjoy Antonio's replica artwork of David’s handsome head by artist Michelangelo.

They are located just off Sunset Blvd. at 1637 Silverlake Blvd. Los Angeles. Lunch and dinner every day except Sundays. Phone (323) 660-4843 . Vive the Stefano brothers.
