Fifty years and still counting is the story of Patsy D'Amore's Pizza located in Los Angeles's world famed Farmers Market. All this and still family owned.
Filomena, daughter of the D'Amore Family, is the hospitable owner of the business still creating and serving the best in traditional pizzas and other specialties of the house.
Recently the pretty, gracious young lady guided us through the delicious fare featured at this famous restaurant while we enjoyed the picturesque patio setting at Farmers Market.
Naturally we had one of the famed pizzas with all the trimmings which took some arm wrestling with my dining partner.
D'Amore's is famous for its original family recipe pizza dough and the brick pizza oven which has a history of its own. The Oven, specially built and designed, was once in Patsy's brother's kitchen on Catalina Island and when his brother decided to close, Patsy brought the original oven, brick by brick, to the Farmers Market location.
The open air patio is a great favorite of visitors who have heard of the world famous Market as well as locals who have made Patsy's their home away from home. Los Angeles Times columnist Patricia Morrison is a regular at the Market for her morning coffee.
Others from nearby Park La Brea homes and apartments show up regularly for lunch or take out.
Joining us at our delightful afternoon with Filomena was her mother, Rose D'Amore. Mrs. Rose D'Amore, with her late husband, for many years operated the famed Villa Capri Restaurant in Hollywood, for some decades the favorite restaurant for many of Hollywood's most famous people.
We noted that Rose ordered the plate of spaghetti and meatballs, another of the favorites at D'Amore''s Pizza. We made a mental note to try them ourselves on another visit. There's nothing like inside information.
