Anaheim--Granville's displays Disneyland Hotel's Culinary Skills'

By The Editor

As the premiere dining room at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim Granville's Steak House shows a contemporary menu in an atmosphere and elegant decor of an earlier era. It is a serene restful retreat either from an active day at the Park or a 'sweaty-palm' drive on Interstate 5.

From a selective wine list my dining partner opened with a glass of Flora Springs Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. This Writer, remembering the return journey on Interstate 5, ordered ice tea.

Nick, our waiter, was most helpful in both wine and menu selections. I opened with the chilled smoked Ahi, with cucumber relish and Wasabi vinaigrette. My partner ordered the Dungeness Crab Cake with Saffron sauce and it arrived in a beautiful presentation.

Our entrees included a seven ounce Filet Mignon, it also can be ordered as 10 ounces, and the pork rib-eye with Granville's Signature rub which Nick touted as superb. Like most steakhouses the sides are listed separately. I ordered steamed asparagus spears with Hollandaise while my partner inexplicably chose the broccoli crown and brown butter and herb crust, probably just to annoy the true broccoli hater seated across the table.

The menu at Granville's is not large but representative of most steak houses. Besides the list of Angus beef steaks there is broiled Atlantic salmon, Halibut Steak or Australian lobster tail.

Nick called our attention to the classic Grand Marnier Souffle on the dessert list which must be ordered in advance. After returning completely empty starter and entree plates we both thought this a bit much and so from the dessert menu chose the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee.

As we left Granville's we passed, just a few steps away, Goofy's Kitchen that features Disney character dining. On this evening to the accompaniment of what appeared to be several thousand excited, vocal little people. It made us most appreciative of our own serene dining experience and just one more reminder why 'God , in his infinite wisdom, gives children to the young'.
