Wien’s family cellars are one of Temecula’s newest wineries. In 2005 the Wiens brothers decided to move their winery operation from Lodi to Temecula. The winery is owned by four Wien’s brothers and supported by 46 members of the extended family. The new facility was designed by George, the eldest Wien’s brother and architect. Brothers Jeff and Dave Weins provide winery financial and facility engineering. Doug Wiens is the chief winemaker and viticulturist.
Doug Wiens believes that in order to create intense, flavorful wines, grape vines need to be stressed and grown in extreme conditions with good sun exposure. Dougfound in Temecula a climate close to the climate of the Napa Valley northern end wheresome of the best cabernets are grown. The Temecula area offers a large variety of soilsand elevation varies more than 1000 feet from one end of the valley to the other. La Cresta with thin and rocky soil is perfect for the world-class “big red” wines that the Wiens family is committed to produce.
Doug is convinced that their 2007 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, currently aging in barrels and scheduled to bereleased late 2009 will prove that Temecula can produce luxury reds of the highest quality in California.
Making wine is a family thing says Doug Wiens. The family mission is “to make the highest quality wine and provide it at reasonable price. The winery seal contains the Words Quality, Family and integrity. We stand firmly by those words as our guiding Principles”.
Wiens family cellars have several facilities to take care of all guests entertainment needs. The grand tasting room surrounded by 7 acres of Estate Chardonnay vineyards is open to the public everyday from 10 am to 5 pm. Adjacent to the tasting room you can visit the barrel room lined with French and American oak barrels where the wine is aged . The barrel room can also accommodate 50 guests and is the ideal intimate décor for a small gathering.
The outdoor patio with tasting bar and stage overlooking the vineyards is a beautiful venue for an outdoor party of up to 250 guests. The event pavilion also has a capacity of 250 guests. It is an enclosed entertainment hall heated in the colder months and air conditioned in the warm summer months.
