The Italian Cultural Institute in West Los Angeles was the place where a preview of Expo Milano 2015 took place recently. This 2015 Universal Exposition has the theme of "Feeding the planet, Energy for Life" and is expected to draw over 20 million visitors from around the world. It opened on May 1 and will continue to October 31.

Those of us attending the preview in Westwood heard a number of speakers and videos highlighting what visitors would be able to see not only at the Expo but in cities like Naples and Rome.

We were awed at the photos showing Milano with its sweeping skyline of modern skyscrapers many bearing Expo signs on the top floors. Other videos highlighted Naples, Rome and more traditional scenes of the Italian countryside as well classic Italian dishes that have earned international fame. Speakers included Eugenio Magnani, North American Director of the Italian National Tourist Board and Paolo Pontoniere, V.P. for CreAgri, Inc. Official hostess for the event was Letizia Miccoli, Executive Secretary of Italian American Chamber of Commerce West.

The Expo Milano site is huge and filled with over 60 pavilions and with many countries represented. The general theme is production and consumption of food and the economic, scientific and social issues relating to it.

The video show also touched on themes to be displayed at the Expo like fashion, hi-tech, culture, art and entertainment.

After the presentation those assembled were treated to a buffet of classic Italian dishes identified by a particular region or district of the country accompanied by a choice of Italian wines.
