"Marina Del Rey--We celebrated its 50th anniversary bash at the Salt Restaurant"

By the Editor.

We took part in Marina Del Rey's 50th Birthday Bash which included L.A.'s Marinafest Boat Show. The outdoor patio of Marina Del Rey Hotel's Salt Restaurant was where we enjoyed cocktails and tasty appetizers while watching two tall sailing ships engaged in a mock sea battle with cannons roaring.

The 50th anniversary bash included participation by many of the hotels and restaurants of the area as well as a boat parade and classic car show.

The Salt Restaurant and Bar which opened earlier this year is a perfect match for its location at the Marina Del Rey Hotel. Nestled adjacent to the boat crammed Marina the restaurant offers a smart, casual and contemporary decor and a menu perfectly suited for a beach side clientele.

We chatted with executive chef Mark Gold who is still expanding the menu which shows California and seasonal favorites. There are appetizers and small plates of Hamachni Sashimi, Avocado Hummus, grilled artichoke and braised pork meatballs.

Entrees include Crab Louie salad, cobb salad, fish and chips, prime aged beef burger, zucchini ravoli, scottish salmon, free range roasted chicken and prime filet.

The restaurant offers a wide range of seating, either at the bar or inside dining room, or on outdoor patios that flank both sides with sweeping views of the marina.

As the hotel restaurant Salt is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner seven days a week and also features a daily happy hour from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Free valet parking is available for Salt customers.

Marina Del Rey Hotel and Salt Restaurant are located at 13534 Bali Way in Marina Del Rey, Ca. 90202, Telephone 310 301-1000.
